3vze year need help!

Ok I'm trying to find out what year my motor is cause I know its not the same year as the truck. I found the number on the block and called dealerships and Toyota directly and they cant tell me what year the motor is even with that number. I need to know for sure cause from what I understand its a different timing belt from 88-92.5 to 92.5-95. Cant anybody help me out?

Different timing belt? The belt is the same. The ancillary bits are different between the split like the belt tensioner and the water pump, depending on if you have an oil cooler or not. What year is the vehicle in question? Since you're replacing the belt anyway, the easiest thing to do is probably tear it down and see what you have going on before you order. That's what I had to do.

the cab is a 89, the frame is a 94 but the motor has a spring tensioner so I don't know what I got going on, lol

89-92 has the spring tensioner. 92-95 has the hydraulic, that mounts in the side of the fan pulley bracket. The timing covers are configured a little different, so if replacing timing cover gaskets you'll need to be sure you have the right ones. It'll be obvious quickly tho, if they are right or not. The idler pulley itself is the other part that will be different.

I thought the timing belts were the same between spring tensioner/hydraulic, but http://parts.lakelandtoyota.com/p/TO...356869075.html Toyota says the part numbers are different by year.

But I'm pretty sure sure Fritz the Cat has the year-split correctly, so you should be able to get the right belt (and gaskets) by checking your tensioner.

Be sure to enjoy some music while you're doing it:

The timing belt for the hyraulic system comes with convenient timing marks on the belt to line everything up. Unfortunately, the belt that comes with the spring tensioner kit (that goes on my '90) does not have those marks. Otherwise, possibly they are the same size but I personally haven't counted teeth...
In the middle of a timing job right now myself, and some of the kits, like the Dorman 924-254 timing gasket kit is listed for the 89-95 3vze. The actuality of it though is it has gaskets for the hydraulic tensioner set-up (late 92-95). The correct/missing two gaskets can be had at a dealer for $25/both.

Nice choice on the tune, already listened twice, haha...
