3VZE vs. 3VZ-FE
Hey guys, how is everyone, haven't posted in a while, just a question on how anybody likes the 3VZE-FE compared to the 3VZE, is there a huge noticeable difference?

I'm not sure what's different on the blocks, but there is some difference. The 3VZFE is a transaxle mount for the front wheel drive Camry. Yeah there is a big thread on here where one guy was trying to put 3VZFE heads on a 3VZE block, but he never got it done.

Short blocks aren't exactly the same... The crank on the 3vzfe is heat treated. The 3vze isn't. Think it's the same for the piston rods...
The long block is another story... The 3vzfe is DOHC, the 3vze is SOHC. Etc. Etc.
Some of the peformance 3vzes that folks sell make a lot of changes that move the 3vze short block closer to the 3vzfe, but it's still an ugly duck compared to the 5vzfe -- the next gen V6 found in Tacomas, next gen 4 runners, etc. It's a DOHC and has a far improved intake system. And well, it was also designed for metal, not asbestos, headgaskets like the 3vze and 22re... Cost is pretty much the same as the 5vzfe these days and it's definitely an easier swap than the 3vzfe...
That said, some parts like the 3vzfe AFM, igniter, and some other parts do swap, but they're two separate engines designed to perform different roles..
Basically, the 3vze is identical to the 22re in a lot of respects. Made to be reliable and good enough, not maximize performance like the 3vzfe.
Add a supercharger to the 5vzfe and it has the highest performance specs of nearly any engine we can put in our rigs...

Had a camry with the 3vz-fe and lemme tell you what-that sucker had some balls! Its basically a performance engine, I could chirp the tires in 2nd gear if I layed into it enough and it was an automatic.
