3vze timing question
I have recently purchased a rebuilt longblock and I was wondering what the best way to time the engine was. The engine came with no timing belt so that brings me to my dilemma. How do I ensure the camshafts are in the proper positions before I put the timing belt on? I see that they are keyed but can they be 180 out? I have the engine at TDC on cylinder #1 and the passenger's side camshaft is set correctly. Any help here?

the crank can be 180* out of phase with the cams, but thats about it. Just make sure that when #1 cylinder is at TDC, that the rotor in the distributor is pointing to contact #1 and that both valves are closed on clyinder #1. Install timing belt paying attenting to the marks. Remember Left is the ENGINE'S left not your left. Once timing belt is on rotate the crank 1, 2, and 3 times making sure the marks line up and the appropriate cylinder has its valves closed when the rotor is in line with it.

Hey Rabbit, try reading the thread before you post the obligatory "use the search function" BS. This is not about timing belts. It is about cam positioning "before" you install a belt. I did do a search on it and after sifting through 20 or soposts, decided to post my own.
