my motor only has around 2000 miles on my motor, and at idle with the hood up i can hear a tick on both sides of the motor.I cant hear it when driving so im guessing it doesnt get worse with load and rpms. could this just be my injectors? when i rebuilt my motor the injectors looked fine so i went bad with them, not sure if them being old would cause them to tick or not. is there any reason i would have to adjust my valves so soon after rebuild??

i was worried before because my 22re does that. injectors all opened and closed each rev of the crank so i thought first was valves then exhaust leak but since those happen every two revs of the crank felt confident it was injectors.

 

how loud would my injectors be? with the hood popped i can easily hear it but with it shut cant hear it so not to loud i dont guess. and will the injectors tick be more back to back than a valve tick?

 

My injectors got louder when they came back from being cleaned. It is a pretty serious tick! I'd liken it to tapping a ball point pen on your finger really quickly, and a fair bit louder.

You might also be hearing your speedo cable, or (more likely) the fuel pressure damper. The damper gets a bit louder before it fails... but mine has been fluttering for the last 3 years with no adverse affects. The fuel damper sounds like it's coming from the firewall itself

Your injectors might get louder under heavy load with no increase in rpm. That might help you differentiate between them and valves.

 

Injectors & the fuel pressure regulator tick like a SOB. It's normal.
