I just made an account on this forum so sorry if this has already been posted or something. I am really desperate to find out what the problem is as my budget is very tight at the moment. I have a 91 3vze 4runner.
So the story goes somewhat like this:
I was driving back from work today no stressing the engine at all (driving 60km/h or like 35 miles/h). When I had to stop at a red light I noticed my rpms going up and down until it eventually stalled the engine. I immediately turned into a parking lot and parked the car while the engine was still on revving it up on purpose (all sounded normal, no misfires, no white smoke from exhaust) it stalled eventually like before. It only did this when I would just let it idle. After this I popped the hood while the car was off and looked under the undercarriage and there was coolant leaking from what looked like the crankshaft pulley. Then I opened the radiator cap (yes it was dumb) and coolant spewed everywhere like a vulcano. I let the car sit for an hour and put some water back into the radiator and all was good after that no more leaking coolant from the crankshaft pulley and no overheating but when I drive I hear water slushing around. I am thinking that this is the water pump failing on me? What other option could it be?
Thanks in advance everybody pretty desperate as to know what the answer is.

 

Ideal plan would be to pressurize the cooling system while the engine is cold and see exactly where the coolant is coming from.

Some auto parts stores as AutoZone and O'Reillys will loan the device to do such testing.
