3vze no spark

1990 toyota 4runner with a 3vze, was putting a new starter in a friends daughters 4runner becuase it had wentout, i tested it and it was bad, replaced, and went to start and she just cranks and cranks, pulled several different plug wires to check spark, none, pulled coil wire and checked for spark, none, now my question is would that mean that the coil/ignighter went south or what? thanks for any input

It WILL NOT run without the VAFM connected. If everything was OK before the CAT & fuses were stolen, what else did they try to take? Not likely the VAFM suddenly went bad unless something was done to it.

There are FSMs available free online with all the procedures for checking VAFM, etc.
