VAFM is easy to check with a "VOM" (Volt Ohm Meter) - set it to ohms and check resistance with the two wires on the VOM connected to the two proper pins on the VAFM. The FSM shows it clearly.
Also that screw on the throttle body is the idle screw, it has an o-ring that gets baked ... and guess what ... causes a vacuum leak! You might want to check that, mine was causing me fits with idle, missing, etc. Fixed that and found a very minor vacuum leak on the brake booster hose this past weekend, now running like a top again.

Had a similiar problem, intermittent misfire and it ended up being the coil wire to the distributor had some corrosion and was making intermittent contact. Worth a try, free fix if it works. Good luck.
