3vze lifter question
#21
If you say so...
However...we're not even done yet...
BECAUSE...
They truly are valve lifters, in the sense that they "lift" the valve, in exactly the same manner that a "traditional" lifter "lifts" the pushrod.
In reality though the term lifter is being misused in both cases.
A. You don't really "lift" a pushrod do you? No, you "push" it. You could just as easily say that the lifter "pushes" the pushrod which then "lifts" the rocker arm on one end(instead of vice versa). Think about it.
And..
B. When the valve is moved via the "valve lifter" on an OHC engine it's not being "lifted" either. It's also being "pushed", and in a downward direction. You can't lift something "downward", that's not possible.
See my point in all the clarity...pun intended.
Until I got here it was pretty much all misconceptions and gibberish....

Well, thank you for setting everyone and everything straight, Mudhippy. We'd probably all be strung out on crack or heroin having given up on any personal sense of mechanical knowledge were it not for your clarity of mind and technical excellence.
More eggnog, pleasthe.....

I vote they should be called "push downers"! Kinda sounds like a hot, new, trendy, date drug.....
