3vze issues

Hey guys,
My '90 yota pickup with the 3vze 5 speed has got me nearly ripping my hair out. Recently I was on a trail an came to a steep incline where I gave it wot to attempt to make it up, well I didn't an when I engaged the clutch to go back down the truck died an had a really difficult time to get it to start back up.

Upon getting it started It suddenly started running rough and I couldn't hardly get it to stay running, every stop light an sign I came to on my way home it wanted to die or did die.

I ran the codes since it did prompt up the cel light, I got codes 41(tps sensor) and 22(temperature sensor). I tested the tps according to lc engineerings tps test/adjustment page an achieved theoretically a good adjustment and the tps checked out on all test. However reality did not say so was true.

I repeated and still no such luck. So finally I hit up a buddy and got another throttle body and a good tps from factory still installed on it (it even has the yellow paint markings on the tps an screw) so I knew it was aligned/adjusted an I also knew it was never touched so then swapped out the entire throttle body with the tps and still I'm getting the same codes an the same issues. Rough starting, hesitation, and wants to die(sometimes now) at stops, varying idle rpm. The issues seem to point towards the tps right? But even with another throttle body installed with a factory adjust tps, this shouldn't be occurring though too right?

I'm pretty stumped on this one, hopefully you guys can help cause I'm not sure what to do beyond this point. Thanks.

You got 2 codes...have you looked into the temp sensor at all? Not sure that'll fix the running issue, but it seems like it needs to be addressed, too.

As for the tps, have you checked the wires going to it? Could be that a wire got pinched and the sensor and adjustment on it are fine. Other than telling you to try looking it up in the fsm, that's about all I can suggest.

I figure any code needs to be tended too, but I don't think the temperature sensor would be of much relevance to how it runs? But I could be wrong, I've been wrong before. But as for checking the tps wires, yes I did, I inspected when I removed the old throttle body, they looked fine. I would look into the fsm, but unfortunately I don't have one. Thanks for the input!

The temperature sensor has a lot to do with how the engine runs. The ECU changes the fuel mixture based on the engine temp, among other things. Engines need richer fuel mixtures when cold than when hot. If the temp sensor is lying to the ECU, the ECU will calculate the wrong mixture making the engine run poorly, just like a misadjusted carburator would on an older engine.

That makes sense, didn't know that. Thanks RJR, tomorrow I'll get a new temp coolant sensor since it's only $16 at local part store. See what it does after that.
