Note that many of the openings in any engine block, or head for that matter, are there to assist in removing the sand during the casting process. We can see quickly from some of the smaller coolant passage holes how difficult this removal process would be.

These openings will often be too large or in areas we do not wish coolant to flow, or where coolant needs to be restricted to direct the flow evenly.

So yes, often some water passages will be restricted, or even totally blocked off to force the coolant to flow from one area to another. The size of each hole is important, and each blocked area has a reason.

Opening those holes to "match" will result in an overheat situation.

Just be sure that any gaskets marked l left(L) or right (R) or TOP are correctly located or you will get to redo the job.....*EB
