3vze Fuel Injector Spacer broken
long-time lurker, first time poster
I'm putting my 95 4runner 3.0 back together after replacing the HG. While re-installing the fuel injectors I found that one of them has a broken spacer on the end. It's the little green plastic cap that goes on the bottom of the injector.
I'm desperate to finish my HG project this weekend, and the dealer says they can't get a new spacer until next wednesday.
My question is how vital is the spacer? It's just a piece of plastic that I assume helps to hold the injector snug on the intake manifold. The broken spacer is in two pieces, but I can still cram it in to make the injector fit into the manifold. Would I be asking for trouble to use the broken spacer rather than wait for a new one?

I would get a new one.
When I got my injectors cleaned locally I ended up finding a shop in the phone book that mostly did big rigs and diesels.
So how does that story even remotely relate to your problem? Glad you asked.
I had a few broken tips like you described and they were able to source them for me very easily from parts they stock. Evidently this was the one Toyota part that wasn't completely unique.
So, you may want to look up some other injector or fuel system service providers in your area and see if they can supply you with the needed part sooner.

Pintle Cap
Dcg, thank you. From the diagram in the FSM I thought the green cap was an "insulator". When I took it to the dealer, he said it was a "spacer". But upon further research, the injector spacer is something else entirely (and I know from experience that the parts guys at my dealership are 100% clueless).
The green tip is in fact a "Pintle cap", and a search for "pintle" on yotatech came up with a whole bunch of other folks with the same problem I'm having. It pays to know the right vocab.
Anyway, I'm gonna check NAPA tomorrow to see what they've got to say about it.
