Just wondering if you figured out what the knock was? Im getting a smiliar knock, but its not half as loud as yours. Engine still running strong tho, no loss of power or anything...Im thinking on doing a rebuild when the time comes rather than a 3.4 swap...Fredericton here too.

Good luck

You can pick up a 3.4 from Capital City for about $150.00 with low KM's!!!

I've had rods go out that didnt leave metal in the oil, just stacked the bearings. Wouldn't quieten down doing the spark plug trick either. Some will, some won't. As far as rocker arms, 3.0's don't have them, it's a shim and bucket under the cam. Toyota calls them lifters, but they are buckets, nothing to break. I'm going through a similar thing now, had an intake seat cough up on the #2 cylinder. That will cause a racket, but also a skip due to loss of compression. On your comp. check, is your engine warm and throttle wide open? On the cyl. with lower compression, pour a teaspoon of oil through the plug hole and see if that brings the PSI up, if it does, you have ring issues. If it doesn't come up, maybe HG.

A stethoscope - or long stick pressed to one's ear should help locate the sound, no?
