Hey guys i was wondering if anyone had any ideas on how i can get the crankshaft pulley bolt off on my toyota 3.0L


So the engine is out of the truck on a stand with no clutch or flywheel on it

I've tried to wedge pieces of wood and all that in there but no luck could anyone
give me any ideas on how i could go about taking care of this i just need to put
a timing belt on and i can throw the engine back in the truck

When I replaced my 22R engine, I had to remove the crankshaft pulley (harmonic balancer) to transfer it over to the new engine. I was told by the machine shop to heat up the bolt with a propane torch, smack the head of the bolt with a hammer a couple times while hot, and then I used a Harbor Freight electric impact gun like this one: http://www.harborfreight.com/12-in-e...nch-68099.html

The bolt came right off.

 

Use google search. You can rent tools, use chains, use rope, blocks of wood, or several other methods recommended previously on here.

invest in some tools. i picked up a 30 gallon air compressor that came with a free air tool kit from sears for less than $350 for the house a few years back. great investment if you're gonna do any wrenching at the house. with my "work" impact, the compressor will take off honda crank bolts.

 

I should have mentioned, I did not use anything to hold the crank pulley when I removed the bolt. However, when I installed the pulley and bolt, I had to fab up a tool to hold the flywheel still in order to torque the bolt down.

 

Don't waste time with wedges, chains, blocks of wood. Even if these worked to get the crankshaft bolt out, as Slow-mo discovered, you've still got to put it back in. You're going to have to get it to 181 ft-lbs; your impact wrench isn't even going to touch that (and if it did, how would you keep from over-tightening?)
