3vze constant high idle.

My runner now has been having this issue for about a month now and im unsure on whats happening. First when i start the car its idle is about 1500, then it drops to around 1200 and stays there when it is warm. Ive cleaned the throttle body and made sure i wasnt stickin on the butterfly valve, but it still is always in the same spot ....1200. do you think its the TPS. or maybe an o2 sensor......is there any surefire way to know? or has anyone gone through this before?, any help is greatly appreciated.

It could be your timing, if the idle adjustment screw isn't helping. Check the dashpot to make sure it's not sticking or misadjusted, it could be holding the throttle too far open.

timing didnt think of that.... the dashpot is fine, its not interferring, cables are not too tight. there are two idle screws right....on opposite sides.

My 3vze has one at the top of the throttle body. There's another adjusting screw located by the dashpot, I think it's called the throttle stop or something. Anyway, it may be needing adjusted too. It would be holding the throttle open in much the same way the DP would be as I described. It has an allen head on it, but it's basically a screw with a 5/16 nut that needs loosened to adjust it.

I found mine way misadjusted to the point of letting the throttle plate stick in the throttle body when I let off the gas. The opposite of what yours could be.

Yours could be entirely different then mine too, it's old.

Your problem is most likely the TPS. Mine did the same thing until I adjusted it. The TPS is supposed to send a signal to lean down the mixture at idle which lowers the speed (or vice versa to richen during midrange?). If that connection isn't being made, it won't happen anymore. I just turned mine a little until it seemed to work well, as I had trouble measuring the impedance of the terminals.
The idle screws are weird - mine has two and I don't know the diff, plus the stops and dash pot.
