Yeah that was fun, it seemed to me that the imports all took forever to go and the domestics went after a minute or two. The s-10's with the 4.3 that had aluminum oil pans all shot main and rod caps out of the oil pan, that was cool. I put a rebuilt 3.0 into a 89 pickup, the guy brought it back after blowing it up in the snow so I did it again and a month later I was blowing it up after he traded it in for "cash for clunkers" I was P.O.ed

Well it was the government's way of getting "polluting" cars off the road. Technically the car's were purchased by the government and they didn't want the engine back out on the road again so we were to drain the oil and fill it with sodium silicate which is liquid glass and run it till it blew. The government than sold a lot of the cars to junkyards and tagged the engine as no good. A ton of good cars were blown up, my mom told me in Cali, a guy traded in a Maserati for "cash for clunkers" just to see if he could.

I still have a rod out of a 4.0 ranger in my tool cart
Doesn't look much like a rod anymore, but thought it was pretty cool to see it laying on the ground next to the grapefruit sized hole in the block it came from. We noticed that the jeeps tended to put on a pretty good show, particularly the v8 grand cherokee. We only blew up 2 toyota's, one an old t100 that was pretty much junk, and one was a 93 or 94 4wd regular cab 22re truck. REAL nice truck, was really a shame. Only had like 110k on it too... But at least I got a set of manual hubs...
It really was quite a shame though, there were a LOT of VERY nice cars that got blasted. Many were POS's, no question. But about 2 or 3 of every 10 were actually pretty nice cars. Could have gone to much better use than their end fate... We even had an old f350 with literally BRAND new 33" cooper tires on it. They still had the nipples on them. Really a shame.

Northstar's are probably used to running with no oil from all the leaks they have anyway. At the time, I had a Legacy wagon and we blew up a turbo Legacy, I would have loved to just trade mine for it but instead swapped brakes, front bumper, wheels, hood and injectors, Shhh don't tell anyone, no one is supposed to know.
