finding a 5v isnt the easiest down here

The only way you can bolt a 4cyl to the 3.0 tranny is a bellhousing swap. Now it gits complicated you must have a tranny in your V6 truck that was also offered in a 22rte the turbo model. I had luck because my truck was an 88 and they offered a 3.0 and a turbo 22r in those trucks therfore they had the same tranny. I was informed that this is a rare accurance. But all you need to do is put a tranny that is compatable w the 22r. The wiring on the other hand is got me going crosseyed Good luck

 

i'm doing the same swap v6 to 4 and wondering what for sure i will need to swap out i no mounts trans all accessories any thing i'm missing ?

 

not done w my swap yet. the tranny will work u just need a 22r turbo bellhousing. motor mounts will have to b cutom cause no one makes anything for this application. The wiring is the worst of it. u need to leave the computer as a juction box then find hot wires as u need. u will need a coil and igniter for a 4 banger. or u can put a GM elect ignition custom built for around $400 good luck let me know how u do.

 

thanks do you know if the trans cross members are different ? are you swapping a 4 that has efi or that is carberated . so far mine hasnt been to bad but all iv done it change the rear end and front end and change over my lift how is yours comeing

 

I have what looks to be a 85 strut front with original 22r but the body is a 90 pickup it has a 3in body lift to help bolt it on and my 1

 

Sorry my information panel doesn't work and to hook up my gas gage what do I do also for the speedo

 

87 4x4 22re originally v6. looks factory.needed motor mounts and had to use v6 mounts.trans is w56 22re

 

Hi I was just wondering if you would recommend buying a Toyota with the v6 already in it and then I could just swap everything over onto my truck because my truck is in good shape and it's hard to find another one. I would like the 3.0 v6 because I have one in my 4Runner and it's a great engine with good power and I would like to sell the 22re because it's gutless. Thanks for any input.

 

The swap is not that hard if you know a little about swaps and have the ability to see the project to the end. Really its just a matter of moving the mount brackets and getting to work. No big deal.

The v6 is great but everyone overlooks the 22re. I wouldnt trade mine for any motor. Not a powerhouse but the truck doesnt really need a alot of power anyway. This engine is super reliable, and gets 24mpg easily. Plus it can pull the trucks GVW no problem. Just takes some patience.

But if you just need more power compare a 22r to a 2jzgte. Yeah, its pretty much the same block with 2 less cylinders. A 22re with forged pistons can hold 500hp. 1000hp on full build. Point is, its a great engine, more than capable. The 3VZE is great as well but the 22r is the original G, timeless straight 4 engine.

If i needed a more powerful truck id go 22re turbo to R series manual or automatic. Too bad that 22RTE bell housing is so hard to find.

 

Thanks for giving me some options. Also are you referring to moving the frame mounts? I did read that some years might have the same location frame mounts for both v6 and 4 cylinder trucks but I don't know if that's true.

 

not an expert of 4 to 6 swaps but im pretty sure the frame mounts need to be moved. Easy enough though, cut em out, drop the swap in, line up the tranny and drive shaft, and weld the brackets in where they fall.
