3vz engine tick

Ok so my issue is that I have a tick coming from the top end. Drivers side. I have a 93 Pickup with a 91 3vz engine in it. The engine ticks when it is warm as well as cold. More when it is warm and consistently gets louder with higher rpm. The engine has only 8000 miles on the rebuild. Everything new except cams lifters crank rods injectors. I've been doing tiring research on this condition and have come to the conclusion of either injectors or the shims. How do you go about checking the shims and or replacing/repairing them? I have Been using Lucas injector cleaner with every fill up with little result which pushes me from the theory of the injectors. Anyone have this issue and how did you fix it.

A tick like this is most likely a Valve Tick!

That means that they were Not set Properly at the Engine Rebuild!

You should take it back to your engine rebuilder and have him correct the problem. It may also involve a new head and valves that are Set Correctly!

Be sure that the Head IS torqued down Properly! With Brand New Head Bolts! They are Only ment to Stretch ONE TIME!

I built the engine. I think maybe one of the shims got mixed up. Or one may have a crack or something. Every clearance was +-.002 of .003.

I used .003 as a starting point. Is there a place that makes these or do I need to try and find them at an engine specialty shop?

Check your distributor shaft slop too.

1. Be wary of advice from someone with 83 posts who uses a lot of exclamation points~

2. Get a mechanics stethoscope at your local parts place, & check around the engine for the tick.

3. I almost GUARANTEE you it is the FUEL PRESSURE REGULATOR; they tick like a b*tch. If it's not the FPR, it's most likely an injector

I have a fpr I can swap out. I'll try that thanks. I've been working on cars since I was twelve... Granted I turn twenty next month... But I've been building engines for about three years now. I usually build sbc so this was a first on the Toyota build. I have never done a ohc engine before.
