31x10.50's or LT235/75/15's??
Looking for tires for my hunting truck and was wondering what y'all thought about these tire sizes? I spend time in mud, snow, forest service roads and highways here in CO as well as a little sand and rocks down in Mexico
I can get a brand new pair of BFG AT KO's in LT235/75/15 from a friend for $400 which is a damn good deal as they come on a set of stock rims already. These tires have less than 100 miles on them.
I could then either sell my tires and rims or have an entire set of spares as that's what I have on my truck right now.
Or should I just wait and spend the money on a set of 31x10.50x15's? I think the 31's would be a little better for my intended usage but how much better would they be and for the money would it be worth it?
Any and all opinions appreciated.

you are also talking about roughly 2" of size difference. the 235's are a 29"ish tire while the others are 31's shouldn't make a lot of difference but might make some if you drive it around lots of steep hills and or have lots of heavy loads in it. I am running 31's (heavy one at that Toyo mt's) and don't mind but you will get different opinions and most of them are right. but $400 is a great price.

I tend to run as much tire as I possibly can, 31's are so close to stock that it's not gonna make a real big difference in power/performance. I run 30's now and my truck is borderline quick for a 22R, next set will probably be 33's. $400 for a set of new or very near new BFG's is a good deal though.

Are you talking Pair (2) or set (4) for $400.00
I only ever run 235/75 15 tires i have far too many vehicles to have all different sizes.
If there is a disadvantage I have yet to find it. Snow, Mud and street
I must say I did notice a difference in performance when replacing tires that were worn down to about 1/4tread depth with new.

I agree that is a good deal because i am looking at a set of used tires and wheels for $850.00. The Tires are BFG AT KO's 235/65/16 on Matte Black Aluminum wheels with 75% Tread left and he is pretty firm on the price. It just all depends on how big you wanna go.

I should add my dad ran 235/75/r15 on his 90 trooper as a hunting rig and it went everywhere, with in reason. He didn't like having more than 1 tire off the ground at a time. So if it was more than that he would have my take the 85 through instead. and he was just running old school cooper discovers

When I went from 29 to 31 my rig was a slug, you might want to put gearing into your thoughts also. You have stock gears, what size are you running now? Ahh I read you have 29's as we speak get the same size especially if you are mountain driving. Unless you re gear you WILL notice the difference with the 31's I personally will say no go on the 31's for what you are doing.

i think it depends on the driver. i went from 235s to my 31s now and dont really notice much of a difference, mostly on steep hills getting going, but gearing is definately key in any tire choice. to eaches own

It was for the set of 4 and they were already mounted on rims from a 95 Toyota. I bought the set and put them on my truck tonight. They are brand new tires(<100 miles) It was a great deal.
I still have my original rims and a friend said he would sell me his BFG AT KO's with 10,000 miles on them for $300 and that's for 5 tires. Spare is brand new, no miles on it. I'll buy them too and mount them on the trucks original rims.

I need to make friends with your friends. From checking the local denver CL it's hard to come by a decent set of tires for under 500 and at that point you may as well buy new and get the warranty....
Good score but with no pics, I don't believe it

I've had both the 235's and the 31's on my stock p/u. I hit the bottom of the diff on rocks with the 235's, and that went away with the 31's. Oh, and I regeared(to 4.56) for the 31's and was glad I did.

Ur not gaining much going to a 31x10.50x15 from a 235 unless you get into a mud traction since a 235 is essentially a 30x9.50x15 so if the bfgs do a good job for what your doing then keep them that's a smoking deal and take it from me I'm a tire guy for a living and have been for some years now.

Looks is an advantage of the 31s also but I'd agree that good 235s will get you in and out of stuff that a bad 31 wouldn't. Sounds like a good deal especially since it comes with wheels!
