Finally a swap worth subscribing to. I am sick of hearing about the 3.4 swap fad.

I would say the R150 will hold up. Plenty of guys have supercharged 3.4's in front of them. I've seen a couple of Turbod Supra motors in front of it also

What other tranny options do we have? "would say" is not much better than "I don't know". Anyone have and solid info to back up the transmission issue?

Check out Downey's catalog (they don't appear to have kits for Ford engines, but they have a lot of good advise) . Although They refuse to make an adapter for the engine and Toyota trans due to the torque the engine will be putting out. The Toyota trans was built to handle 160lb-ft of torque, 300 will certainly destroy second gear unless you just baby the hell out of it. It kind of defeats the whole purpose of doing the swap. Go with the auto in the car, or find a stick for cheap. Can't go wrong either way. Check out the link below for more good info.

I think the R150 can handle it. If you like doing burnouts or really running through the gears hard then it won't but otherwise it should be good for everyday use.

well i picked up my transmission fri i got a rebuiltC4 out of a 70 something mustang. the guy said it was out of one of his sons buddys cars and needed it out. he says it only has 5k miles on the rebuild, and ran fine when it was pulled. but he didnt know why it was pulled? i'm not real concerned i'm gonna have my girlfriends dad go through it put the shift kit in it and put the adapter on. i havent decided which adapter kit to go with yet advanced has one and northwest offroad has one for about 50 bucks cheaper. Oh yeah the best part is i only paid 80 bucks for the tranny and the guy met me at my job and dropped it off. it came with a torque converter so hopefully i'll be able to get the stall bumped up on it as well. i got my truck all torn apart its comin along nice. the motor, t-case and trans are all out of it. Ive been lookin and i think it will be really easy to belly tuck it while i'm doin this so i'm gonna make a crossmember for it and try to hopefully get the bottom of the t-case about flush with the frame rails or maybe an inch below and i got some i think 1/2 x 4 bar stock steel for free so i'm gonna try to use it for the crossmember. i had planned on puttin a bunch of pics up but my camera is dead. so i'll prolly get them up sometime this week. I also ordered my 4.7 gear reduction kit and some 1.5 inch wheel spacers. they were trying to convince me to go ahead and order the IFS eliminator kit to from trail-gear but thats a little on down the road, but it will be soon after the motor swaps done. well anybody know anything on either of the adapter kits let me know i havent decided on either one yet. except ones cheaper.

I think the R trans would be ok.

Isnt that what the people who swap in the Lexus V-8 use?

I wouldnt go backwards to a 3 speed, unless its just a trailtruck, losing the OD would kill the mpg.

well my adapter from advance came in wedsday and my shifter came in today it is an Art Carr shifter from Wild Horses Four Wheel Drive

got my 4.7 reduction gears installed

the engine bay is empty will be hopefully more empty after i get the charcoal canister and some other odds and ends out

I dropped off my c4 and adapter at the tranny shop today. Gonna have them go thru it, maybe rebuild it, install a shift kit, and bump the stall up a little bit.

Oh yeah i picked up some paint the other day too its gonna look sick with this ...

its the real deal...

i have most of the interior pulled out so i can cut out the tunnel to do the bellytuck. the goal is to have the t-case completely above the frame rails but we'll see how that goes once i get it in and mached up.

there it sits for the night...

this weekend i'll be ordering the solid axle kit and picking up my front axle.
And by the way these tires are for sale. 33x12.50/15 TrXus M/T 95% + tread a few knicks in the sidewalls from where they rubbed on the body but i would like to get $550 outta them .

i dig the project...cant wait to see the motor sitting in the engine compartment. about 15 years ago when we put a ford 3.8 v6 into a cj2a we used a c6 torque converter. the guy at the tranny shop said it would hold up better for wheeling. just some thoughts...

a 3.8 with a c-6? never going to break that transmission. they put the c-6 behind every big block or early diesel in ford pickups.
I think a c-4 would be better because it is lighter than the c-6 and they would really be pretty good behind a 302 and in a light toyota

Definately id go with R150/R150F, then id keep the 22re T-case since it has a reputation as being the strongest.

tranny shop called today its done 830 dollars later..... its rebuilt, adapter installed, low stall converter, and a shift kit. pickin it up tomarrow. then prolly on hold for a few weeks till i get some money banked up to get the straight axle kit, the tranny was a little pricey. i think i'm gonna do the SAS befor i put the motor in so its easier to do both install the motor and sas. I stripped the inside of the cab the other day and installed some dynamat on the roof and back part of the cab. hopefully it quiets the rumble of the v8 power down a little bit. so it dosent sound like ur riding in a coffee can. after that i did some painting with the Olive drab paint and i gotta say it looks pretty sick. i cant wait for the whole truck to look that good, i'll post some pics tomarrow.
