Is a 3.slow a Zero Clearance Motor?

Scenario: 4000RPM, low range, 2nd gear, in a minor mud hole. Rolled out of the hole with no power, truck then would not start. Disty isn't turning so I'm guessing the timing belt, BUT, is the 3.0 a 0 clearance motor? Are my valves done?
I'm probably gonna do the belt with a buddy anyway, but should I get my hopes up?

The 3.0 is a noninterference engine. If the belt broke the valves will not make contact with the piston.

Good Luck

Well I hope it's just the timing belt then. Is it at all common for the distributor shaft itself to break?

I, would think the TB is the problem. I, broke a TB three months ago and the dist was the first thing I, checked. It wouldn't turn as I cranked the engine which was due to the broken TB.

Yah, I'm just going over everything in my head. It was a fun 4 days of wheeling, broke in the last 2 hours which was a crappy ending to the weekend. Now my mind is turning a mile a minute going over all the possible problems/causes.

yea, the distributor is driven by the driver's side cam, which is turned by the timing belt. Personally in over 2 or 3 years Ive been on this board, I have never heard of a distributor shaft breaking... Timing belts are cake on the 3.0..

Minor.....not even to the beads on the wheels. Just bumpy trying to cross some rutted tracks, so it took some throttle.

Another thought, I have no spark or fuel pressure. Are all of these tied to the computer getting a signal from a cam sensor or something? This has me soooo stumped. There was pressure in the line when I removed it cause it sprayed everywhere, but no flow when I turned the key on, with the line off.

In order for the fuel pump to turn on when the key is on the VAFM's flap must be open... There is also a fuel turn on if you apply 12v to one of the terminals under hood. I dont remember which though.

the flapper thingy on the end of the intake that measures the volume of air coming in as well as its temperature. That front flap has to be open for the fuel pump to kick on.

Hmmmm, will keep it in mind when we reassemble tonight. Currently doing the idler, tensioner, seal and of course the belt.

Thank you guys! It is reassembled and rolling again. It's a heck of a lot quieter now with new idler and tensioner. Also no more tick, guess that could have been the belt hitting the belt cover, who knows.
