3.4 Swap shops

3.4 Swap shops
Hello all,
Just bought another 4Runner with the classic V5 engine and when I went to look at getting a swap kit from Off Road Solutions I saw that they closed shop back in December. Sooo...any other places that will do the complete swap like them? I travel tons, and I'm living in an apartment now so I have neither the time nor the place to do any involved work. Any suggestions?
I should also add that its a 2 door, so I want to keep this one more as a daily driver with a slight lift and all Toyota. My last 4Runner, also a 2 door, I went the 302 route when the engine lost all compression, and lets say I would not do that again.
Thanks!

he must be from Canada or somewhere other than USA. cause they never sold the Nissan Patrol diesel in north america. So his best bet is to go to a Toyota dealer or if near the UK, go to www.hiluxsurf.co.uk and ask there.

Actually, thats a good assumption but wrong. The Patrol IS outside of the US, but I live in Miami. I spend a lot of time in Europe and have the Patrol there.
In any case, if, and its pretty much the deciding factor, it were a shop that could give a straight forward, factory looking swap then I would consider taking it prety much anywhere. Of course if I can go to a place that has done a few of these before all the better.

Thanks Alex, I contacted the guy in Eugene, and he sounds like he knows what hes doing. Also sounds like hes done a few of these. The price seems extremely cheap though! Not that I'm complaining, but sometimes that might be a bad sign. The ORS guys quoted 9000 or so for the whole thing, and this guy quotes 3500. Has anyone had work done by him?

I hear ya! When I was in college I made do with running the V5 until I was able to swap it out afterwards. Its gonna run me more than that cause I'm going from an automatic to a 5spd.
As for the 9000, well, as far as I know there weren't any other shops besides ORS that had the entire kit, with wiring and everyhting to make it a drop in affair. Probably wrong on that, but I just never saw any other complete swap kit prices to compare it to.

Sooo...no other suggestions for a shop to do the swap? I found out that the shop in Eugene is a guy in his garage. Not necessarily a problem...but would be nice to have options. If not I think I'll go with him.

Interesting..
I actually met the guys who are in Eugene when I went out to look at a 4runner they were selling. They were doing a 3.4 swap into an older toy pickup. They were soldering the wiring together and already had the motor installed. They do it out of there house in a two car garage. The do seem knowledgable as I grilled them for a while about the process. I didn't end up buying the runner as it wasn't nearly as clean as it looked in the picture and the tires in the picture had been swapped out for junky substritutes. 3500 includes a 3.4 motor with about 100k on it. It doesn't include the timing belt or waterpump replacement and they said autos are a little more due to the adapter plate. They use the existing exhaust and weld an adapter fitting to accomodate the 3.4. I didn't get to see a finished rig or one in a runner but for the price I'd say it's hard to beat. They told me they listen to the motors before they buy them. I'm not sure if the come with any kind of warranty. Hope this helps..

He does sound like he knows what he doing...what concerns me is that the wiring is clean and everything works. Although it sounds like thats not a problem from what you're saying. Thanks Rich!

Well there were two of them doing the swap and I only spoke with the one so I'm not sure??? It is worth taking a look but i would hold on to your dough until you pick it up and are satisfied. Maybe he has multiple names for tax purposes. LOL

Well if there were two guys when you went that would explain things. I have to say though, I thought this thread would have gotten tons of people chiming in with shop suggestions. Guess most are home made swaps.
