Not to make you feel any worse, but you've really piqued my interest! Are the bolts on the intake manifold stock? I don't remember there being any with Torx heads, and it looks like you've got a mix. (And the one in your picture is/was a Torx-head.)

WTF!? How? Where? Why? Who?

I found something like that when I tore my engine apart after the head gasket blew. But far less severe. And I suspect a spark plug piece was the actual cause of mine.

So when whoever played with rebuilding the engine prior to you purchasing, left a bolt somewhere, probably fell into intake runner? Have you determined where it came from?

Well, I'd rebuild the one you have(if I was going to go used, and unless there were some reason it couldn't be rebuilt). But if I were going to buy one, it would have to be new/fully rebuilt with performance parts and some extra goodies thrown in(particularly performance camshafts). Like this one from Pacific Machine Co.(formerly CHS Machine). Mainly because they're pretty much local to me(I live 35 miles from Portland).

Though I would put AISIN water and oil pumps on it instead of the D&J Rock.

All finished up runs like a CHAMP

This tent blew away in a wind storm the night after i got it started... it was midnight when i finished and i didnt want to continue cleaning ..... definantly shouldnt have left it over night

I would start with the timing on the crank one tooth back so that when the slack in the belt catches up the timing marks line up!!!! ( i found this to be true after three attempts and beining a tooth off.... VERIFY with 2 or 4 complete turns on the crank (clockwise)

notes : remove mount from frame and install onto motor!!!!!

I've been following your thread since the beginning, though I do not think I've posted before. I'm really glad to hear that you got everything straightened out. I just know that my 3.0 is going to give out sometime in the next decade and I am not at all looking forward to swapping a new engine into it. I think I need to get some friends. Did you do all this work by yourself?

YES i carried all the frustration of broken bolts broken mounts and knuckles.... all and all a pain and time consuming but relativity simple.... if you dive into yours send me an email at gjack750@gmail.com and i will try and help you through the tough spots .... ( i see a free vacation to Disney land in my future !!!! )

I took my time getting it out and it took two afternoon/ evenings to get it all buttoned up probably 30 hrs of wrench time.... though next time im sure it will be quicker

i think it would have been easier leave motor together and pull then taking it apart in the truck. however those top bellhousing bolts are a pain.... If you disconnect the shift linkage and drop the tranny down you should have better access to the bell housing bolts..... take lots of pictures and label all those hoses

I love the new motor, and the place i got it OER they were very professional !!! inexpensive and there shop was clean and tidy!!!!!

SeeBeeAre, am currently finishing off a 3.0L rebuild but luckily not as extensive as you. Any chance you know the position this final connector from my wiring harness should be located (mind you it is right hand drive - 1993, Japanese V6 model). If anyone else has a clue, feel free to PM me as to not highjack.
