I need to pull my headers for some engine work.

Has anyone had experience with re-installing headers with the same gaskets? Bad idea?

Will the gaskets for the stock manifolds work? Does anyone know what gaskets will work on Downey headers? Maybe Downey is the best source?

I have had them on the truck for about 3 months. I'd like to get some from a local auto shop if possible. Save shipping and time.

I use the stock steel gaskets on mine. Just need to trim the heat shield on the gasket to make install easier. I also spray copper coat on them for good measure.

 

I've re-used my downey header gaskets. No big deal. No problems. Like ganoid, I sprayed the copper coat on 'em first.

 

I'd use a new one, it's too hard to change those later if they leak, plus Downey headers are not best known for flat manifolds.

If you go the stock gasket route (and I would if it were me) try finding some for sale on e-bay or the classifieds here. They come in the rebuild kits and many people don't use them. So many that one guy said he throws them away all the time and can't even give them away.

 

I have a spare set of the stock gaskets. They are brand new . . . . . came with my Jasper. I put Downey headers on and used the Downey gaskets.
