2wd motor in 4wd

So, my 3vze recently died in my 88 4Runner and I found a motor from a 95 but I wanted to know if it there is anything different in the motor from the 95 2wd auto since my 88 is a 4wd 5spd.

I'm surprised none of the V6 guys answered you.

If the 3VZE install is anything like the 22RE, then the oil pan and oil pump pickup tube are probably different between the 2wd and 4wd. If that's the case, all you should have to do is swap the corresponding parts from the 4Runner's engine on to the 2wd engine.

Maybe the guru's will pop in...?

If the engine came out of a 4Runner, regardless of drivetrain config, it will fit in a 4wd.

If it came from a 2WD truck, you will need to change the pan.

The other things needing changing will be obvious, such as wiring, sensors, injectors, and some cooling parts. You also need to keep in mind the 95 uses a different timing tensioner setup. Instead of a spring and a bolt like your 88, it uses a hydraulic tensioner setup. As long as the 95 motor timing parts are there, you won't have to worry.
