2nd Gen face lift to 3rd Gen..Possible?

Is it possible to put 3rd Generation 4runner lights, grill and bumper on a 2nd generation 4runner? Ditto on the dashboard, is it possible to put in a 3rd generation dash in a 2nd generation?

If anyone has done that, then please post pictures.

Thanks

well, firstly: anything's possible. Whether its feasible or realistic is another story. There is a conversion for 2nd gens to look like '02 taco's I believe... its a fiberglass hood and fender set that you can use with the stock headlight and grill assembly. I'm sure there is going to be a large quantity of drillin' and cussin', but I've seen several looking absolutely amazing. See hannemann fiberglass for that kit.

Second, why stop with the dash? I would find the dash an afterthought detail to a 3.4 liter 5vze engine swap, along with gauges and ECU. Again, that wouldn't just be a drop in swap, but some careful cutting, shaping, and massaging. Anything's possible... but its looking like another huge PITA.

The hannemann kit:

I've seen the Taco dash swapped into an older truck or 4Runner, but for the life of me can't find it. I think it may have been over on Pirate.

The question is: why go through the hassle?

Wonder if you can do just the instrument panel in place of the stock unit for a 3.4 swap so you don't have to do the wiring harness if that is possible even

The wiring harness really wasn't that bad. Time consuming, yes. But not too bad, really.

But why???????

Its like a poser thing to do- making something look like its not. Its kind of like driving around with a surfboard on the roof when you've never been surfing, if you catch my drift. If you want a third gen, buy a used third gen!

well, I hope to one day have a need to have flared fenders up front (total chaos kit) and personally find the tacoma conversion one of the most attractive of the options for a 2nd gen. Do I want a 3rd gen? no. Might I want a 3rd gen gauge cluster to match my 5vze one day? who knows. I prefer 2nd gens for every reason but the engine, really. If I need to replace all those parts anyhow to make it the 2nd gen 'runner of my dreams and choose to get 3rd gen-ish parts, whats the problem?

As far as what Sajidd wanted with a 3rd gen looking 2nd gen, I don't know what to say. Technically its possible, but again, is it worth it? Is it a realistic amount of work for a worthwhile amount of payback? Not for no reason (or purely aesthetic ones) in my book. Matt16 said it best - cowboy up and buy a 3rd gen to beat on. It'll be cheaper in the long run.

I quite like the looks of my 2nd gen and wouldn't change it, just for the sake of change.

Lol.. sure why not (-: Make a rocket out of it!

Ok guys, down here in Karachi, labor does not cost an arm and a leg.
My question was simple, is it possible or not.. or rather i should have asked, can it be easily done or not. Sounds to me the answer is no, as far as the headlight and the grill is concerned.

For the dash swap I have few choices, ie just re furbish the original dash, or swap it with 3rd generation or even go with a LJ70 steel dash.

But first thing first, I need to get it started. Just swaped the 2lt diesel engine with a 1kz turbo intercooler 3000 cc engine. Down here we did not get too many patrol version, just few.

Here are the pictures of the 4Runners/ Surfs that i have owned..

Sold the 3rd Generation and also sold the 2nd generation v6.. now am left with the 92 second generation that i plan to use as daily runner as well as for camping trips with the family.

it would be easier for you to swap in Tacoma parts. The 2nd gen 4Runners are much more similar to the Tacomas through '04. The 3rd gen 4Runner is a new body and chassis because it went all luxo-hoity.

read here for a little background and some nice comparison pics:

We never got Tacomos down here. I will probably just do a dash swap... the front will get the ARB bumper that was on my 3rd Generation so the front face lift is not necessary.
