2nd Gen 4Runner 2WD lifts

I have been searching the forum but can not find a recent answer to who makes a 2nd gen 2WD lift BESIDES Superlift. Also, do the 2nd Gen 2WD's have a prerunner suspension? I was thinking 4Crawler's BJ spacers and Coil spacers but i'm not sure what size tire will fit with this setup. I'm ready to be newbie flamed (i don't even own a 4Runner...YET!) I am looking for a 3rd Gen 4x4, but may possibly be trading my Ford pickup (2WD also) for a 95' limited 2WD just so I can start getting familiar with 4Runners while I save for the 3rd Gen. Oh, and I want to lift the 95' just for shiggles so I don't wanna hear the ole "2WD SUX" banter...thanks.?

Check your suspension (pics help) and let us know if the torsion bar is attached to the upper control arm or lower control arm. I'm betting the upper control arm. But even if it's lower control arm which would mean it's using the standard 2wd truck suspension, BJ spacers can work (just have to get the correct ones), and I'm betting even more on the suspension in the rear being the same.

AFAIK, the 2wd 4Runners utilize the same basic suspension as the 4wd, sans the front axleshafts, differential and driveshaft- basically the 2wd 4Runner is the forerunner to the prerunner... and the pellet with the poison... well, the pellet with the poison is in the vessel with the pestle, the chalice from the palace has the brew that is true.

I recall someone else had a lifted 2wd here but he had a drive line vibration issue.
The AUTO driveshaft output is not a flange type...I think. If you have stick, you might have to just get a front d-shaft and lengthen it. If the lift is not that high, just ignore what I just said.....haha

I'm gonna see the guy tomorrow so I'll check out the torsion bar in relation to the control arms. And thanks for the welcome, I'll be honest and let you all know I do own a BEEFY 85 CJ7 but I wanna get a 4Runner too. I've never worked with IFS so this will be a new adventure to suck my wallet dry

I have a lifted (3.5") 2wd pickup and didn't have to do anything to the driveshaft- trans output to propeller shaft to carrier bearing to shaft to the rear axle...
... so I'm with Justinlhc here with WTF.

yeah... I'm lost here too, lol... what does any of that have to do with a front drive shaft? aren't we talking about a 2wd?



IIRC, Abe is exactly right on his 1st post; the 2wd 2nd gen 4Runners have a 4wd suspention and steering setup, it's just minus the obvious 4wd components, like a t-case, front d-shaft, front diff, CV shafts, and hubs

that being said, any 4wd IFS lift for the same gen SHOULD work, you'll just have a couple extra components like diff drops and such (assuming you were to step up to a full-on 4" bracket lift)

but the UCA's should be the same as a 4wd's, so 4wd BJ-spacers should be an exact match


but like Abe also said, post some pics and we can tell ya fer sure!

Just bought a 2WD 2nd gen last friday. Maybe I snagged yours.

Came here to look for info on a 2" lift to be able to fit some 33's on her.

I guess I'll have to post the pics (later today) of mine to get the answer.

Mine has all 4wd suspension, minus the obvious. The wheel bearings, brakes, etc. is all interchangable. In fact, when I ask for 2wd parts, they give me the wrong stuff. I ask for 4wd stuff, works great. My front crossmember even has the mounting hardware for a transfer case, just sitting there. I can sure tell you it rides like a 4wd! The torsion bar is connected at the upper A arm. Interestingly enough, I was thrilled to find out that I have the larger bearings, etc., as I don't intend to necessarily be "nice" to the truck all the time, but never thought of it as a pre-Prerunner as Abe coined it. Now I'm even more proud of what I have!
