22rte starting issue

2 days ago I bought an 87 Turbo 4runner. It drove great 2 hours home and to work the next morning. Now it doesn't want to start and when it does it won't rev past 2000 rpm.
When trying to start it will fire every time and die about a second later. When it finally is idling it won't rev past 2000. Sounds like a rev limiter at 2000. Runs great under that.

This is my first 22 truck so I'm completely lost right now. Anyone got any ideas?

22rte starting issues

First thing i would check really close are all of the rubber components on the intake system to the turbo.Make sure to examine closely for cracks and that they are clamped tight. And by the way i am parting out a 86 22RTE turbo 4x4 pickup if you need anything give me a shout.

Check timing. The chain may have jumped.

It is really hard to start.

I can't find any sign of a leak in the intake.

I'm talking the rubber connectors on the air intake tube, not the actual intake manifold. And i'm a little confused, you said it ran great at lower rpms but now you say its starts hard.Especially look closely at the rubber connector that has bellows and is about 8 inches long and has a nipple sticking out of it.I usually find these are severly cracked.Have you verified the timing?Well time for me to head to work.Good luck man. Also check fuel pressure.

The rubber piece you're talking about looks better than most I've ever seen. It's hard to get it started but once it is it idles great. My timing light isn't lighting up anymore (cheapo) so that will have to wait until I can borrow one.
