22re vs 3.slow
Ok so yesterday I swapped 4runners with a friend of mine so he could work on my u-joints and he has a 89 with the 22re in it and I could not believe the difference in power. I have the 3.slow in mine with the 5 speed and he has a 5 speed as well. Mine runs in tip top shape getting 18mpg's with 189k. He has 223k. Is the engine just way more efficient or what? I know all the earlier model guys really like them. I just wonder why they made the 3.slow for slow long if it was a stinker.

I like my 22RE a lot. They're easy to work on. Its alright if you're not in a hurry, and you're properly geared. Also, I've gotten 26mpg with it, so that eats your 18mpg for lunch. Driving around town (lots of big hills) and traffic, I get 18mpg.
