22re timing problems....
#1
Well today i put a new timing set on the 88 toyota i bought. I got it all put back together and now it wont start. i set my timing like 15 times, and still nutttin. it will crank over and act like it wants to start but no go. I pulled a sparkplug and i have spark. Now what?
The truck ran (ty) before i put a new timing set on.

You were able to get the timing set to 5 degrees BTDC with the 2 terminals jumped? I finished putting in a new engine on Saturday and couldn't get it to fire at first because the timing was so far off. It would just sputter and backfire.

you sure you have spark, fuel, compression? crank it over for a little bit, then pull a plug and see if its wet with gas.
100% sure you're got it timed right?

well i pulled the valve cover and set it at TDC. and messed with the distibuter a lil bit...and bam got it runnin......the only problem is it still dont seem to be running like it should, its fine at high RPM's....but idling its "popping" a lil bit in the motor...what could it be? a bent valve?

What do you mean by "popping"? Metallic clatter would be a sticking/bent valve or some valvetrain issue. A "popping" could just be the timing off. Make sure you set the timing correctly by jumping the test connectors in the diagnostic box and listen for the drop in idle.
