Does anyone know who makes them, if they're even made? I know there's superchargers for the 22r, but I can't find any for the 22re. before you guy ask, I have thought about a turbo. I have always been a big fan of superchargers.

LCE has had one, but not right now.. fixing some issues.. they claim when it comes back up for release the low boost will run off the stock ECU with no other mods.

I do plan to run the stock ECU, but the engine will have a cam and maybe some head work. can I run the stock ECU if I do this?

Talk to the guys at LCE, they seem to know what the max is on the ECU.

What cam do you have? You have to be careful if you keep that cam because if there is to much overlap of the intake and exhaust valves staying open, you will lose power and burn the valvetrain.

This unit has been around for a *long* time.. Like 20 years. Early units are junk, they have oiling issues, many can't be rebuilt.. I see quite a few on ebay sold by not-so-ethical individuals. (There's one being sold there right now, being advertised as 20r/22r/22re - it has a 20r intake)

This unit was converted for use with the 22RE recently. The problem it had was that it went from draw-through (carb version) to blow-through (EFI) version. LC found that without pushing fuel past the rotors, the rotors would overheat and the blower would fail.

I owned the prototype "high output" model for the 22R. Atkins Rotary really supported their product and took care of it if I had a problem.

As long as you have a reasonable NA cam.. Like 99% of people do here (required if you've got stock EFI) - it'll be fine with your cam.

Good things:
Gobs of torque. Lots. Available off idle. It's a great add for a crawler.
IF it runs off stock EFI, that's great.. I'd question the power output and want to see a dyno run before buying.

Bad:
It's super inefficient.. I can't say how inefficient because the people that make it have never measured it, but it's a super old-school design. I'd guess it's ~50% efficient, meaning for every 2 hp it produces, it sucks one up just turning the belt.
A new Eaton blower can be 75% efficient.
It's expensive. Like $2500.
It doesn't produce great top end hp. Realistic boost is fairly low and it's only rated for 12psi.


You'll notice that I'm playing with turbos now. That's after having megasquirted that blower application via a 4.3L TBI setup.


For $2k you can build a very decent turbo motor, manifold, turbo, and megasquirt to run it all....
