Glad I found this thread. Engine in my 88 is tripping up at low RPMs. When standing in front of the truck, which way should I turn the screw to aid low RPM mess?

Make sure you don't have any vacuum leaks before you do this or you'll never get a good setting!

Mark the screws slot position on the aluminum casting with a permanent marker so you have a starting reference point. You could always scratch it into the casting with a sharpened nail if you're worried about it.
Now turn the screw maybe 1/4 to 1/2 a turn and see what it wants. If the idle gets smoother you went the correct direction. If not go back to your reference point and turn it the other direction.

I can turn mine full rich and still pass Ca smog check. I'm pretty sure Toyota restricted how much it can be adjusted, as earlier years had much more adjustment capability. The next time I have the AFM out I'll see if I can find what they did.

If clockwise makes it richer perhaps the older years were equipped with a longer screw and or the casting has deeper threading?

I've got a hunch they put a small air bleed bypass in it, it could be as simple as a hole to plug.

I wonder if it's a threaded in jet or a simple hole they drilled from the factory?
Might be different sizes depending on the application from the factory.
