22RE Spewing Coolant

22RE Spewing Coolant
Searched around and didn't really see anything like this...
It's been doing this since a wheelin trip last weekend. I will get to work after a 40 minute drive to find coolant shooting down out of the coolant reservoir cap.
At first I thought the problem was that the coolant was boiling since I've only been refilling with water. That's not the case though since I get the same problem when using the right 50/50 mix.
Thermostat and water pump are both fine, and there are no clogs in the radiator or hoses.
When I run it with the cap off, coolant will eventually come shooting straight up out of the radiator. Without the thermostat in, coolant flows fine without overflow.
I'm stumped.

Either HG blown or warped head. (I replaced HG about a month ago, haven't been able to run with t'stat in w/o overheating.) Before my HG work I was loosing about 1/2 gallon after a 70 mile round trip. Just like you say, the system pushed the coolant out the top of the rad. If you've got the bucks it's best to just replace your head and know you corrected the problem. I'll be back into mine within the year and I only drive it 350 miles a week.

Definitely sounds like a blow head gasket. You were running straight water? That's not good; no lubrication for the WP seals & you GREATLY reduce your cooling effeciency.

do a compression test,if running straight water you wont smell the sweet smell,or see any smoke. it is probablly like mine and was just at the start of going.Face the facts its the gasket.Replace and use arp head studs

Read what I wrote, I wasn't running straight water. After I lost coolant every now and then, I only refilled with water.
Well I Also replaced the thermostat and flushed the system over the past week. The whole time the flush was running in the motor the hot idle was around 1500 RPM - even with the idle screw all the way in.
When I dumped the flush and refilled with 50/50 mix the truck acted VERY weird. Sounded different, slight lack of power, stiff throttle, and still had a very high idle. It's not spewing coolant anymore now.
I'm not arguing it's not a blown headgasket, it probably is. Just replaced the thing last summer and don't really want to do it again.

So I just ran a compression test and it's at least 160 across all cylinders.
Take it around the block, and aside from the mysteriously high idle runs fine. Damn, this motor is FINICKY.
Guess I will begin testing the coolant temp sensors and TPS.

I know your not looking forward to doin ur hg again so if you want to avoid it in the future have ur block and head checked for flattness and machined if necessary... I wonder if it was done to my truck or not (PO had it done just before i bought the truck..)

All the plugs looked their normal brown when I pulled them for the tests...
Did a bit more work on it today and found where a bunch of intake tubing had a fine coat of mud. Cleaned up the intake and associated wiring and it seems to be running fine now aside from the high idle problem I can't seem to solve.
I dunno...think it's the TPS acting up.

have complete faith in Toyotas you must.... or rotting corpse you will become... from stress your own, mmmm??? yessss.....
that's really interesting....
and yes V6ers (I am one on the side), we are superior in terms of reliability AND bone stock performance... can your 2VZ-FE/3VZ-E V6 truck or 4Runner do zero to sixty in 7.5 seconds like my bone stock '93 can?
How about in five like my '99?
perhaps, but I doubt that any of you drive like morons... I certainly don't, because I want my trucks to last, whether they're the ones I own now, or the ones I'll own in the future...
thanks for the update... I was going to help, but it seems like you've got it covered already. If anyone ever needs anything in the future, though... please don't hesitate to let me know: toyota.18R@gmail.com

or I WILL have molly ban you for at least a week.
if you want to be friends (I doubt that one) or just hang out and 4 wheel (slightly more probable, but still unlikely) or if you need help [about anything in life, be it Toyotas, cars in general, computers, girls/women, sex life (don't be a pervnert about it though), God, the meaning of Christian, personal relationships, hardships, prayer requests, or even just to talk for fun, or if you have interest in Japan (not likely AT ALL)] (just maybe) please do not hesitate to email me... I need all the encouragement and positive strengthening/straightening out I can get, especially after I texted off like that...
