Question 22re that runs wide open as soon as it fires up

I have a 93 pickup with a 22re that runs wide open as soon as it fires up. It started doing this on the way to work. I was going down the parkway about 70 miles per hour, and it started to speed up. I let my foot off the gas and it kept going. I pushed in the clutch and it redlined so I used my brake to me under control. Ive hunted for air leaks cant find any. Ive bypass the iac valve no change. ive plug off all vacum ports just to be sure no change. Ive unpluged the tps no change. Ive unpluged each injector to see if one was stuck open that wasnt it. I dont know what to do now short of a can of gas and a match.

well I woudln't even think the motor could get the RPMs up to rev-limiter if the throttle valve wasnt open; the motor wouldn't have enough air and would probably come up a couple thousand RPMs and just sputter, come close to choking itself out... but I could be wrong...

is it random, or constant now ever since it happened?

did the throttle valve return spring break on the throttle body?

I turn the idle screw all the way in (2 turns). I didnt think a throttle valve would let it get the rpm up that high either but it is. I have held the throttle closed while it was run and still goes wideopen. I can take egr plate off of the intake and use it to kind of regulate my rpm. So I can try and diagnose the problem. I have taken carb cleaner and sprayed around gaskets as it is running and cant find any leaks.

well im no genius but if the throttle is closed but still taking on rpm's it seems to me its gettin air from somewhere else. such as the plae where the intake and head meet, or after the throttle body. But id say its safe to say it HAS to be gettin air from somehwhere to be able to rev up.

Well I have taken the DAMN thing apart many times and cleaned it. Hell Ive taken everything apart, plenum, throttle body and etc. And cleaned all of it and put new gaskets on. I also put a rubber vacum plug on the inner side of the iac valve and put tape over the outer side so it is plugged on both sides of the throttle body. And in responce to abecedarian when u first start it will go up to about 3000 and as it warms up the higher it goes. When it is warmed up and I start it immediatly goes wide open or it would if I don't shut it down. I wont let it get past 4500. I suspect that there is a air leak, but I cant find it. Also someone told me that the problem could be on the fuel side. Is this true, and if so what could be the causes.

it is not a fuel problem. If the throttle plate is closed and there is no leaking air, fuel alone will flood it. You have a major air leak somewhere.

Is your brake booster good?

IT can only be a few things, my '86 had the throttle cable get froze and flood the truck out, and then when I started it two days later the ran wide open.. Pissed me off, Had to de-ice it.
