I had a trusted(?) mechanic rebuild my 1987 4RUNNER 22RE with some upgrades - crank, cam , header and exhaust. When i picked it up, i noticed engine noise, chatter, lifters? My mechanic is telling me this is "normal" for this engine. I was expecting a chatter free sounding motor after my $3200 investment- its completely rebuilt. IS THIS NORMAL??? thanks for any info. Shiny side up.......

 

valve chatter? or something deeper?

 

I would let it break in a bit, other than brand new stock, i have never heard a quiet Toyota.

 

Almost deeper than a valve or lifter. I can feel it.

 

what kind of crank did you get?
