I am about to rebuild my engine with my kit from Engbldr.com. I did not bore it out as the cylinders looked good. When I put the pistons in the cylinder with no rings on them I can rock them back and forth the same way the crank would. The book says max .035 mm clearance which is next to nothing. When I measure, I get a clearance of .10 mm, bore size is 92.5 and piston size is 92.35.

Anyone with any experiance let me know what you think. Will I have some slap. We are talking parts of a mm but when I hold the piston in the bore it seams like a lot.

mine are loose as a goose on my 22RE. there was still a very visible crosshatch all the way around the cylinders(not egged out) when i tore it down, so i reused the pistons and just put in new rings. i could definitely rock the pistons back and forth a bit on all cylinders, but it runs fine and doesn't make any piston slap noises. remember, your pistons expand when they're hot. just my .02.

I am measuring with a micrometer and a bore guage with vernier. Thanks Kyle I won't worry to much about it then.

where are you measuring on the piston? that makes a difference....

In most of the 22Rs I've done HG jobs on, the pistons weren't sloppy at all. There was one I did that the pistons we're sloppy like that, I ended up tearing it apart and the cylinders we're worn at an angle, and the piston skirts we're cracked, and I imagine would have fell off if it were driven much longer.

Well the pistons I pulled were good except for the rings were all broken. 430km will do that. The cylinders had ring grooves at the top that I have removed with hone.

Just wondering what the bottom of the oil pan looked like when you had the broken piston skirts? Thanks
