22RE Performance alternative

Any suggestions on a quality shop for 22re work? I had been drooling over 22re performance but not sure if I can wait out their backlog. I am hoping for something that will get me another 200,000 miles. Not opposed to shipping.

I'm in the same boat, kind of unclear what sort of wait we're looking at. I've been perusing yotashop and doa racing but so far have decided just to keep waiting it out.

It's kind of like the prom and the two sisters. I want the sure thing. I don't want to have engine envy this time next year.

I went with new oem short block assembly mostly because I didn’t like what I was seeing with rebuilders trying to save old blocks. Sure, for what I paid for just the block assembly you could easily get a whole rebuilt long block. But I know my crankshaft, pistons, bearings, etc are all new/std size. Nothing decked, shimmed, bored, or ground. And no parts from outside the Toyota Parts Supply chain.

As of today.

REBUILT 22R / 22RE / 22RTE ENGINES

Well…….

We are getting close. Mighty close.

Here is the small amount of info I have as of May 12th. Please read through and keep an eye on this page for pricing / scheduling when that info is available.

As of May, we are waiting on a container with our cylinder heads in it (I know, there are others on the market, but we refuse to use them. For “reasons”). So, we are close to start scheduling, but until the heads are here an we can get some prep on them, we are not ready to start scheduling just yet. Soon.

We are going to be on an “appointment” system for engine builds. We are going to require YOUR engine to be sent to us to build (core engines are near impossible to get our hands on), we are working out the logistics and ground rules for shipping us your core engine to build. We are hoping to keep the shop time of your engine build within 10 working days from the day it hits our doorstep until it is back on a pallet and on the road back to you or your installer.

We are working through the new pricing structure and add-on upgrades. We will not be building the Stage 1 engines any longer. Due to the amount of labor involved and the price of the parts, it doesn’t make any sense financially (for you or us). Pricing them accordingly wasn’t a value any longer. We will have the Stage 2 and Stage 2+ including various other items we can add during your build.

Still no firm ETA or pricing, but we are getting there. Keep checking back and thanks for your patience!!

I bought a rebuilt but failed to inquire as to parts/gaskets etc. Head gasket failed less than 10K miles. Something to consider when ordering long block. Better option is having engine rebuilt locally if possible with all quality or Toyota parts.

NPR-(Nippon Piston Ring Ltd) makes very good pistons and rings.
Ishino has nice gasket sets. Many of the pieces seem to be same source as oem-like the 1/2 moon s and grommets.
Taiho has excellent and fairly priced bearing sets.
OSK makes a nice timing chain set. The Achilles Heel in chain sets is typically the tensioner, and the OSK kit has a tensioner comparable to oem. A cheap tensioner will have you back redoing your work way too soon.
And of course, Aisin and Denso offer many components via their aftermarket line.

And you need a good machine shop. And you need a tech that inspects the machined block to make sure everything was done properly before starting to assemble. Good machine shops are becoming VERY hard to find these days. All the cheap parts coming from Asia is making it hard on them to do good work and get compensated properly.
