22re Oil pan issue, idle issue...

Ok another question. I have a 1987 4-runner, that apparently has a 83 22re in it. Well at least we think... When taring the motor down we bought everything for a 1987 4-runner.. Timing chain, oil pump, water pump, lots of stuff. Well needless to say the timing chain guides did not fit. but the 83 ones did.

Now we are having the following issues.

1. Oil pan is leaking, we have tried the gasket.. pissed oil.. tried Honda bond.... pissed oil. Every time we ran the pan through a parts cleaner, and sanded down the edge a bit to insure clean surface. Does not appear to have any dents or out of wack. Any tricks that you could pass along? Also is it at all possible to pull the pan without removing the cross support and dropping the cent IFS section?

2. idle. I am not sure if an 83 motor is carb or EFI. But this motor has an EFI system on it. We have been looking thorough a manual and the vacuum lines just don't seem to match up? When cold starting it does not run at a higher idle and when we get it warmed up it runs really rough? Anything that you guys can help?

We have done thus far:

Water pump
Timing chain (guide, chain, sproket things)
Oil pump
plugs, wires, cap rotor, gromet
PVC
O2 sensors
new head
valves adjusted
Flushed all fluids

Any help would be great, trying to get it running strong so that I can tear down the suspension and finally update my build thread

The 22Re`s didn`t come out until mid year in 1984, so if you have an 83 engine in your truck then it was originally carburated, so someone added the fuel injection to it, it could even be the fuel injection that was on the original 87 22RE engine.

That is what I am afraid of. Is there any possible way to make this run correctly and be reliable?

My parts source was sure that it is a 83 22re BC of the timing chain guide not matching up. Unless (if I m lucky) it is an 84? is there any deference in 84 and 87 timing chain guides? wish I took photos when we had the issue.

Any help would be great, I would be bummed if I am looking at trying to get an 87 motor back in this thing to get it to run right. just spent $600. on parts!

Any way to identify the block to see what year it is exactly?
