22re issues
Recently, my 22re has been stuttering/hesitating when I get on the throttle. Even as little throttle as ascending a short hill. Also, when the engine is warm after a few minutes of driving and I release the throttle, the engine drops to 400-500 RPM (very rough, low idle). Timing? TPS? WTF? Thanks for the help.

The truck is MT. The check engine light is not on, but I will check for codes by jumpering the terminal. Will also check the EGR. What is the best way to check the EGR? I've never done that before. Also, any recommendations about the possibility of bad gas? It did start happening soon after I filled up. Thanks.

Replace the fuel filter to start.
I would also check for vacuum leaks, propane works good for this. Open a tourch (Dont light it) and waved it around the vacuum lines, If the engine starts to surge you have a leak there.
WD40 works aswell.

Do full tune up, spark plugs, wires, distributor, cap, rotor, and fuel filter.... Mine did that for a while, I took it to a shop, and they said that the distributor and wires were FRIED!!! Turns out they were original...like everything else on my truck!!

Mine was doing something similar to that. I cleaned the throttle body and idler screw and that has really helped. I readjusted my distribtor timing and the idler screw and am setting at 850-900 rpm now. I'd clean the throttle body first before anything else. Well that and new plugs, wires, dis. cap and a rotor. It might just be that simple and if it is you'll save a little money and some time.

Could try a higher octane fuel.
As to the EGR, I would take a vacumn pump and pump it down. See if it holds the vacumn. This would tell you if the diaphragm is good. After you do that, start the truck and apply vacumn again. If the EGR is working, the engine will run rough.
Does it do it around the same engine speed? This is the greatest indicator of a TPS. Does it go away when you change foot pressure? If so, I would look closer at the TPS and then at the vacumn advance.
When was the last time you had a tune up? Unless it has been some serious mileage, I wouldn't go in for a complete tune-up all that quickly. I might pull the cap and look for some carbon tracking, but I wouldn't go out and get new everything just yet.
IF you look for a vacumn leak, I would suggest brake-kleen or some thing alot less flammable than propane. Don't ask why. Let's just say it wasn't pretty.:pat:
