Here's the story, in short: My 94 22RE was missing on the 4th cylinder and running like crap. The injectors were in bad shape, I sent them to RC.engineering and the report said that 2 and 4 were at 19cc and 2cc, they are now back to 180cc with new rings and seals ect.. I put them in and the engine fired right up, 4 is firing but the idle below 5k is still really rough and the block shakes quite a bit. I have;

1) new plug wires
2) new cap and rotor
3) new NGK plugs
4) NO check engine light/ no codes
5) d/c'd the EGR valve, no change
6) sprayed contact cleaner looking for a vacume leak
7) not replaced the O2 sensor (see 4)
8) new fuel filter about 10k ago
9) new timing chain at 120k (now at 195k)

Why is it still running like crap? any ideas, I saw a lot of good info on this site and hope someone has an idea.

Welcome to YotaTech.... did you hook up the injectors right maybe missed placed a vaccum line ?

 

try some seafoam from your local autoparts store, its just like carb cleaner just search the forums for seafoam and u should find a lot of stuff.

 

Thanks for the ideas, I never disconnected any vaccum lines, just the radiator and fuel. I was able to flip the manifold up and access the injectors. How about the cold start injectors? someone told me these could be dripping, anyway to diagnose this? Over 10k RPM it sounds smooth and had plenty of power but at low idle it still shakes pretty bad I am at a loss. If anything is worht trying let me know, found some seafoam, haven't tried it yet.

 

I had a distributor wear out and cause similar symptoms on a non-yota. took forever to diagnose - i guess it's not something that usually comes up. The dealer changed all the ignition parts and most of the sensors before they figured it out and fixed it with a $50 junkyard part. maybe worth checking?

Might be off the wall, but did you check your motor mounts. If they're worn, they'll cause your engine to rock quite a bit, which has a tendancy to throw things off balance.

 

Broken valve spring?

 

I didnt see anything about your TPS. That thing causes so many problems if it is out of adjustment. If it si bad, you can't time the engine or set idle speed, and from there it is hard to fix anything.
I got the best results solving rough idle by replacing my TPS, cleaning the throttle body and the cheapest of all was changing out all my vacuum tubes. After that, it was pretty darn smooth. Before I did that work, the vibration hurt my legs.

 

it would be a good idea to run a compression and leakdown test to make sure things are internally sound. Also if you have a vacuum guage you can hook it up to a vacuum line that goes directly to the intake and watch the reading. I believe it should be around 21 inches of mercury. (which is what vacuum is measured in) It should not fluctuate, this can also tell you about the internal engine parts. good luck bro
