22re head Suggestions

Hi everyone I been lurking for quite some time and using the search feature quite a bit. Finally I have a question that needs to be answered.
I have a 88 Truck 4wd with the 22re. Oh yea it has about 407k on the motor as well.

Now my questions are how many of you have replaced the cylinder head and who offers the best bang for the buck?
Mine needs replacing due to PO overtightening the cam bearing caps and striping out two holes and burning up three valves. Also high mileage has me worried.

Thank you in advance.

Jason

yup, EB's heads are new castings so you don't have to worry about corrosion in the water jackets from the beginning, as well as unexpected suprises like an excessively milled surface from a blown head gasket

I read quite a bit of info on them and I'm still thinking of maybe going that route, BUT $$$ is an issue right now so I'm not sure. Is anyone currently using this head? Is it worth the extra $$$ ??

Anyways just thought that I would get some advice from someone that has gone through this before.

Don't take this personally but I'm trying to stay away from the used heads because of exactly what kyle_22r posted and what the PO did to mine.

It should! I’ve seen it many times where people will have the head completely rebuilt only to destroy the bottom end (piston rings) and burn oil like no tomorrow. 407K miles ....she deserves a complete overhaul!!

I recently did a cylider leak test and came up with 20-25 % leakage past rings on the 2 cylinders with good valves. In a perfect world where money is no object and my bills get paid on their own I would just put a brand new motor and tranny in, but here in reality that is just not possible at the moment. So if I can make this motor last another year or two then I should have enough money to put a new motor in.

i have a 91 pickup 22re and i think there is a valve sticking (intake 4th cylinder), what would be the best thing to do to get my truck back on the road? i want it to be a little faster than 80mph, but not looking to spend and more than a grand. what head, should i port, what are some things i can do just to my head for some more power? i want to go for a trophy truck down the road.

kmcmahon, etiquette required a new thread for a new question.

OP, ENGNBLDR is the top of the 22re game and I'm sure you won't go wrong with his product.

Just to share my personal experience, I had a head reworked during a headgasket job when my 22re had like 250k on it. After install I did indeed burn a crapload of oil. But if that happens maybe some 20W-50 will help control it till you can do the bottom end.

If things are really tight why not salvage a head. Anybody can pull a head and if proper steps are taken you won't jack it up removing it. Save the cash and redo all the motor at once.

A performance head is not going do do much unless the exhaust is opened up. Some will debate the K&N filter thing, , AFM, intakes, and throttlebody too.
