22RE engine rebuild/gasket identification

Newbie here. Learning as I go....

Im in the process of rebuilding the engine from my 89 4X4 to swap with my 93 4X4. I took many pics for the rebuild but neglected to take pics of the GASKETS when I removed them. Now I dont remember what type of gasket goes where. The larger gaskets are not a problem, its the smaller gaskets that I cannot place. Is there a link or a pic that indicates gasket type/size/placement?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Specifically , the oil strainer gasket. There are three that are the correct size. Two are paper material and one is a metal type. Of the two paper gaskets, one is slightly thinner than the other.

If you are talking about the oil pick up tube that goes from the pan into the front/bottom of the block, it's a paper gasket that goes between that tube and the block. Now you have two choices. I can't recall any other gasket having the same exact dimensions as that one, so I'd say use whichever one you like more. There are a few gaskets with similar shapes but none that are exactly the same.

Pictures are helpful when you want help. Give as much information as you can and we'll be able to tell you what you need.

Thanks for replying to this thread. I'm new to this and will get better with my posts by adding more detail and pics.

After looking at the gaskets, I believe the paper gaskets are identical, probably an extra added by mistake...I hope. The metal type gasket was slightly larger than the other two. I'm going with the paper.

I have other questions about using loctite, if at all, and if so where and what type.
I bought some permatex grey for the oil pan, I've read on some of the threads that this is the way to go.

This is my first rebuild and first time using a forum. Any advice is greatly appreciated.

When I rebuilt my 88 22RE I think the only place I used LocTite was on the timing chain guide bolts. I upgraded to the metal backed guides while I was there. And I used Permatex Ultra Black on my oil pan and it never leaked in the year I owned the truck before selling it. I also replace every engine seal and the truck never leaked a drop. The 4Runner I sold it for has a remanufactured motor but it burns and leaks oil and coolant.
