22re engine knock

I've got a knock in my 93 4x4 engine that starts at about 2500 rpms. It'll stop if you ease off the throttle or give it more throttle. Won't do it at idle so I'm having a tough time finding it.

I've got my fingers crossed for a solution that doesn't involve wrist pins and so on. I've read what I could about the Knock Sensor. Could it be that? I've spotted it next to the oil filter. It's dirty with oil but the wire is still connected. There's no boot over it. Engine runs fine otherwise. Good idle, no smoking, etc. No check engine light either. Timing chain was replaced about 18 mos ago. I looked down on it with the valve cover removed and everything appeared fine. I know the knock sensor may be a reach but it would beat the heck out of a rebuild. Help!

160,000. Other than the knock it runs well. Doesn't smoke, idles perfectly and starts right up. I replaced the timing chain about 18 mos ago using various Ebay parts. Maybe they just weren't worth a crap.
