I thought I had a bad knock sensor, swapped it out all was well. Same thing happened again no power above 2k or so. Changed it again, ran for a day. After a few days of I cut the harness back a bit and found a bad connection to the knock sensor, fixed that and all is well. Check the wiring to the sensor as well, never know what kind of a hack had that thing before you.

yeah, ill definately check the wires. the guy who i bought the runner from swapped in a 22r from a 1984 pickup and he put the stock efi on it. when i redid the top end, i had a lot of fun finding the correct parts because the 4runner originally came with a 1990 22re, and the pre-84 22r engine is totally different from the 85 and up 22r's.

thats just how the four bangers are. with and without cams, with or without big tires once you get to third or fourth gear all power is gone. gutless is the term. as is my 89 reg cab with stock gears and 35s. very gutless...

you can hardly compare your truck to his, yours is gutless because of stock gearing and 35's, get some 5.29's and it will be pretty quick. he should have lots more power than what he does, i have 32's and stock gears and i wouldnt say its gutless at all itll take medium sized hills at 60 in 4th gear with little to no slowing down

what would be the best way of going about that? like should i regear or get new axles and diffs off craigslist or something? and i am only in high school so what would be the cheapest way and how much? and i would have to change the front and rear to 5.29s right? i couldnt just do the rear?

i actually put in a brand new motor and yes i always use the jumper when shooting the timing. im still have the lag problem....when i go full throttle in second or third, it hesitates, feels like its bogging down, and then it gets better. tested the tps and everything is fine.

maybe something to do with the ecu or injectors?? or something electrical??

I'm really curious to see if u have solved this problem? I just did head gasket and tons of other new parts while I was there and it will rev fine in neutral but I can't climb over 3500 rpm in gear any gear... Now I didn't use the jumper to set the timing but when I tried the truck wouldn't start
