On my distributor I have all 4 of the spark plug wires in. (that's including the one to the ignition coil)

But there's also a set of other wires (2) that come out of the top. What are these wires and where do they go? Ever since i did the head on my 22re I have never found out where these plug into. If you look at that picture above, You can see they plug into a plastic cap. I have that plastic cap - but on the other end of that there's no other wire. So it essentially plugs into nothing.

Are these wires essential?

i can t really see what your talking about. but i have a feeling they go to your coil on the driver side fender-well. if your truck is running still and your happy with it, do what the army says if ain t broke don t fix it.

 

Ok, I've updated it and highlighted it with a yellow amoeba blob.

My truck is running, but it's sputtering and missing and surging and I'd like everything that's supposed to be hooked up to be hooked up so I can troubleshoot the problem.

 

That is the coil pick-up wire. It goes to the igniter. Truck won't run at all if it's not connected.

 

Mine is running and it's not connected to anything. Are you sure? The main wire to the igniter is conencted (the single cable that looks just like a spark plug wire) but these are different wires. These must go somewhere else.

yeah it runs over to youre igniter that's mounted right on top of the coil

I bet you have no rev-limiter right now

 

This was a picture I found from google images. I thought I put in the original post that it was borrowed from google, but I guess not. I've edited that in now.

So that's for the rev limiter?

 

It is provides the NE signal to the igniter and ECU. If it's not hooked up the engine shouldn't run since there'd be no signal to the igniter and ECU to determine when to fire the plugs and the ECU could not calculate RPM's, timing advance and when to fire the injectors.

It runs from the distributor over to the igniter on top of the coil.
