22RE compression test question

22RE compression test question
I'm relatively new to the board and have a quick question for you all. I'll get my profile/pic as soon as I can. Anyway, I am going to do a compression test on my '89 with the 22RE. I've read that an underhood starter switch should be installed to avoid pouring gas into the engine when I cank it to measure compression. Can I just remove the EFI fuse to prevent gas from injecting the engine?
I'm also going to be doing a timing chain replacement, but I really don't want to remove the head. I will end up removing the oil pan to fish out the plastic guide. Are there any serious problems with leaving the head together when doing the timing chain? I just don't have time or money...
Thanks for your help!

yes pulling the efi fuse will prevent it from pouring gas into the motor on an compression check.
yes the timing chain can be done without removing the head if you remove the oil pan but you have to be carefull not to crinkle the part of the hg that extends over the timing cover.

Thank you! I've read that the front differential needs to be removed in order to get the oil pan off. Someone else said that three bolts need to be loosened and then the differential can be tilted enough to remove the oil pan. Is this true, and what three bolts should be loosened?
Thanks,
Rob
