I bought a toyota that was wrecked and aledgedly has a new rebuilt motor with 10k on it and went to do a compression check because it wont pass smog and I was trouble shooting and two spark plugs un threaded with threads in them!(totaly stripped head!) Lesson learned even an $800 91 yota can be a bad deal! After having the frame straightened and all other misc shi......stuff I will have 2k into it and the odometer reads 209k. Man I am a dumb ASS!

The head in the first link looks good, but when it comes to the head gasket, buy a stock head gasket from toyota, there have been many people on here that have used other brands of head gaskets only to have them fail a few months after they were installed.

If you think that is WAY THE HELL TOO MUCH then I guess I should not tell you to look at the head I got from L.C.Engineering and if you want a QUALITY HEAD you will not find one cheaper or someone more stand up and willing to back there parts then TED/TOD.

Go buy one of them cheap chinese heads from E-BAY and risk that it will be remotely as good quality as engnbldrs street head.

I bought a head for my 86 4runner through a local shop, it ended up being just under $600 for the head and complete top end gasket set. I don't remember the brand of the head off hand but if you want i'll check for you

He's freaked that engnbldrs street head with the bigger valves is $468 bucks I doubt he would want to buy a stock set up for $600

Haha oh, i didn't check the engine builders price. Anyway i thought $600 was pretty reasonable for a head and full gasket set...

well hell, engnbldr's STOCK new head is only a little more at $367...

I'd pay the extra from a well known seller before I trust something like a cylinder head off eBay... just my opinion...

I went with engnbldr's Street RV head during my rebuild, and I have NO regrets, but yeah it's not the cheapest either...

I got a sweet head off of ebay and used engbldrs gasket kit witch is from Rock Auto Parts , I wouldnt by a head from someone who has only sold 2o items on ebay.

i'm not sure what your plans are for the truck, but one inexpensive fix is to use a heli-coil kit. any machine shop should be able to do this for you, or do it yourself and save the machine shop fees. or www.lcengineering.com if you have the big bucks

Haha before i put the new head on my 86 i stripped out the threads on the #4 cyl, i just epoxied the spark plug in there an drove it no problem for 6 months till i overheated it an cracked the head...

hahaha awesome yeah if you wanna fix her for cheap go with a heli coil ALOT of people have had good luck with them

I'd be PISSED if I bought a truck and found out a spark plug was epoxied in place cause the threads were stripped out...

I was planning on doing a heli coil but didn't have the time right away so i did it as a "temporary fix" till i could get the heli coil done... 6 months later i took it in for a compression test thinking that spark plug/cylinder was the problem. Turned out that cyl was at full compression it was a cracked head at the #2 cyl that was my problem...

ok I bought a head from engbldr with a cam and full gasket set with head bolts do to searching and reading the china heads have about a 70% unhappy customers to 30% happy customer ratio. He has a sale on them right now for $348! It was like $500 and something for it all. Now it will have an aftermarket cam and all be done right. The guy I talked to said that Fel pro gaskets suck on yotas, and sold me some others that are supposed to be good. I always thought fel pro was the bee's knee's but I guess not.....

Fel-Pro HGs do not work well with Toyotas (the material used is the type that should only be used on cast iron to cast iron, not aluminum head to cast iron block).

Like the others said, go OEM or Corteco. We've actually found the Corteco (when properly torqued and surfaces are correct) to be superior, but you can never go wrong with OE.
