I've already got about half of what I need to convert to EFI (22re) but recently PROPANE has caught my eye more. Always knew about the conversion but never really considered it because of the hassle of limited fuel storage and having to go to a propane dealer to get the good rate.

HOWEVER... Now I can't make up my mind.

I've only found one guy who puts together a conversion kit. http://www.gotpropane.com/

$800... eh.. kinda steep but he's got the monopoloy and from what i have read it's a damn good kit!

What about a dual setup? Is that even possible? Run gas and propane, switch between the two? I don't get how propane injection works I just see it replaces 2/3 of the stock carb and has some funky round UFO lookn thing (regulator?) that mounts between the tank and the carb.

Someone shed some insight on the whole deal?

Also, can you run dual Propane tanks? Say TWO 10 gal tanks? And if so, how big are those tanks?

How could you mount a permanent tank functionally and in a place that it could easily be refilled?

if i remember correctly the gotpropane kit is not street leagal, wont pass smog and requires a carb, so you cant run both EFI and propane....

what i know about propane is from fork lifts and the propane tank have a vapor and a liquid ports and the liquid side goes to the carb

i dont see any reason you coudnt run 2 tanks, but as far as dual fuels you could try emailing the guy that builds it

I have a 22R now. I was PLANNING to conver it to a 22RE but am now re-considering the Propane injection.

The only thing that deters me is the limited fuel storage and amount of room the tanks take up. I'm planning a flat-bed so figuring out how the tanks would mount without taking up half the rear-end lol. Putting them in the existing gas tanks position is a thought but im not sure how they could be mounted there.

And Ideally I'd like AT LEAST 20gallons worth of propane onboard. Given the burn rate I wouldnt have a problem with filling at the same rate I am now (about once a week) on a 16gallon gasoline tank. =)

propane is usually measured by weight, not volume. Probably gunna have to have the bottles mounted in the bed. I wouldn't recommend putting em where the stock fuel tank is without a better skidplate personally.

Talk to the owner of GotPropane.com. He was working on a dual fuel kit for the 22R but not enough interest was shown for him to make it offical.
He might still build you a kit if you ask nicely though.

Propane is crap. Less power and more fuel cosumption. I used to drive dodge plow trucks that where propane/gas. I would get about 1.5 hours on the propane and about 5h on the gas. The 22r is gutless enough, propane will be hardly drivable.

theres a lot of people driving them for u to say all that. Id pm Insane04 he knows alot about propane and he drives one on propane everyday.

I read from a few places there is no gain or loss in power. Only it runs smoother and can idle lower. Know nothing from experience.

you keep your same power on a staight propane setup... once you start doing dual setups, thats when you run into less power and higher consumptions. Gotpropane.com kit is illegal unless you go thru the alternate fuel inspectiosn with DMV... thats how it is in Connecticut atleast im not sure about your state. i no a few people who run it and are all very happy with it.

don't really have a concern with legality. They don't check vehicles in my county only if the vehicle was licensed and/or bought out of state do they require an inspection when registering it.

well the octane rating on propane is between 100 and 110 so if you ran higher compression to take advantage of it you would be making more power. I am looking at doing the conversion myself to run on natural gas or propane because they are a much better alternative than ethanol.
