22 RE timing kit.

Need to do a timing job in the 92 4x I just picked up. Everything I read says to go with engbuilder kits and be sure to get the metal guides. Well his kit only has the drivers side being metal. I found a kit with both metal backed guides from CNS autoparts. Has anyone used there stuff to know if its quality or not? Ive got a local Toyota Guru that helped me put a kit in my 95' that had both metal backed guides and he got it off of rock auto but I'm having trouble tracking the kit or him down. Is it important that the passenger side need to be metal too?

The left side is the one that most often wears out .

Because the direction the engine rotates

For 22R series engines I stay loyal to Ted( Engine Builder) for all the gratis help he has given me over the years

Any other thoughts on both guides needing to be metal?

I got that kit off rockauto as well, I think it was Cloyes. Since I wasn't in shape to do it myself I got a garage to do it. Everything I've read says that you want to have a steel rail on the long side, the short one doesn't seem to slap as much and isn't as prone to eat through your block.

Ted is a good guy and so is his company, but go with an OEM chain instead of the one in his kit. Also, I get OEM gaskets as they just fit better. The OEM chain doesn't stretch as much and just uses better metal.

You must have really good hearing to be able to sort out the timing chain on a metal backed guide .
