2-door 4runner

Looked at a 2-door 4runner today for sale in my town. I think it's a 90 or 91. Midnight blue...with gold side decals..Body a little rough (rusty)..undercarriage very rusty..thninking about it for a new project truck..oh..it's a 3.0 auto..4x4..just looked quick..don't even know if it runs..how rare are these? Reminded me of my old 2-door 89' Pathfinder SE. Will all of the drive train parts match a 4-door?

They are kind of rare

They cost MORE than the 4 door (when new) due to import tax issues....

Wheelbase is the same
drive train is the same

I think the doors are NOT the same - they use a wider door from the xtra cab truck?

I remember the grill had the "Toyota" name instead of the t-circle logo..does that give away the year? nevermind..looks like they changed to the t-circle logo for model year 92'..so the 2-door must be 91' or older..

I have a 93 2dr (thats the last year they imported them) In canada they are a bit more common but wpuld still say about 20 to 1 4dr to 2 dr.

All the drivetrain parts are the same 4dr to 2rd, the doors on the 2dr are Xcab P/U doors.

There is one sitting on 4 flats in a garage near my house. I always consider asking what they might want for it. got some rust but it looks like it has sat for years.

I have a 1991 2dr SR5 4x4 with the 3VZ-E and a 5-speed tranny with absolutley no rust anywhere. I bought it from a local dealer here, the previous owner lived in Calif. From talking with a few toyota dealer ships, it seems as if only about 300 2doors with this engine and tranny were ever made. The dealers say that most of the 2nd gen 2doors are the 4 cyclinder engines. I'm trying to keep it as stock as possible.

Roadrunner, I think i speak for alot of us when I say that you need to post a thread with pics of your Runner. I knew they existed, but Ive never actually seen a 2nd gen 2-door before. A thread with a few pics would be awesome.

just wondering, is there any practical use of having a 2 door over a 4 door other than them being so rare?
