How about some suggestions (with pictures if possible) of what to do for storage of the removable top. it's taking up valuable square footage on our garage floor and getting smacked into alot. plus it's not the best place to stack stuff on top of either.

i have a 3-car garage so ceiling space is very much available but i know my wife would freak about that suspended from the ceiling.

something more along the line of a storage rack or something like that so i could drive up to it and slide it on with minimal help.

I'm getting ready to make a "shelf" that I can back up against and then slide the top onto and store the riding lawn mower under still. My garage is deep though...

 

yeah,i'm thinking shelf too. something i could get close enough to and lift up one end and slide it on.........kinda like a bunk-bed design that i could have a work bench under.

 

I have been thinking about welding up a rack that can be taken apart and put up like tent or scaffold.
so when you don't have the top off you can store the rack in a small location.

my old place I used two 2 inch moving straps i hung them over the ceiling joists ran one through the windows and the other I set under the back of the hard top then ratcheted it up about 2 inches and pulled out of the garage only thing that sucked was I could not use that part of the garage.

since I live alone I usually don't have anyone around to help remove the top or put it back on when I want to do such things.

 

I just hang it on the ceiling with tie downs, along with my duck hunting boat and our kayak. Put 4 eye bolts into the ceiling joists, hoist it up there, easy as pie. I have been through several earthquakes with the up there, no problems so far. If the big one hits, I will have bigger stuff to worry about.

 

My ceiling is totally full already lol. When mine comes off I thought of setting it on top of my tent trailer.

4CRAWLER.......how do you get it back down? i picture you on a ladder going from strap to strap to strap lowering each one a little at a time. otherwise easily do-able.

yeah i guess i shouldn't over complicate this.......just curious what everybody else does with their's.

i have a cap for truck that weighs about half of what this does.......i store it in my basement since i have easy access to that and it's light enough to carry myself...just bulky.

 

Piece of cake, just drive the truck underneath then lower one end then the other end down, releasing the straps. Important to use the friction straps and not the ratchet kind:

My ceiling measures 10 feet, so I have to bring it down in a couple of steps, but, not really a big deal. As Roger said, use the friction straps, you can lower each a bit, working around. In a few minutes it is on the rig. It takes longer to bolt it down than to lower it in position.

I think I got this idea from Roger years ago, but can't remember. When in doubt, thank Roger, he probably came up with it.
